Open through lunchtime, twelve hours straight
Most pharmacies in Spain shut in the middle of the day, roughly 2pm to 5pm. It catches people out: the chemist you walk past at half past two is very often closed.
We do not. Monday to Friday we are open 8:30am to 8:30pm, twelve hours without a break, and on Saturday 9am to 2pm and 4:30 to 8pm. There are four pharmacies in Pego and only two stay open at lunchtime, so if you drive down at three in the afternoon, this is one of the doors that will be open.

How prescriptions work in Spain
In the Comunitat Valenciana prescriptions are electronic. Your doctor at the health centre (centro de salud) enters the treatment into the regional system, so there is no paper to carry and nothing to lose. At the counter we only need the SIP card (tarjeta sanitaria) of the person the medicine is for.
You are not tied to one pharmacy: any pharmacy in the Comunitat Valenciana can dispense it, no appointment needed. If you hold a private prescription, or one from a doctor abroad, bring it in and we will tell you whether it can be used here.
How a medicine is classified is decided country by country. Something you picked off a shelf at home may need a doctor's prescription in Spain, and occasionally the reverse is true. Where Spanish law requires a prescription we cannot hand the medicine over without one: that is the law, not our discretion. Ask and we will explain what applies here.

If you live in Monte Pego
Monte Pego is a few minutes up the hill, and for most people who live there it is home all year round, not a summer address. That changes what you need from a pharmacy: repeat treatments that must not run out, a hand when a prescription has expired, and someone who explains things clearly.
